Recommended Posts

Below said ships that should be Museumships:

USS Kitty Hawk

USS Enterprise CVN 65 (being scrapped due to N fuel).

Polaris FBM sub??

USS Forrestal class carriers alone.

USS Ponce LPD 15.

USS Spruance class DD.

HMS Ark Royal for UK.

1st generation LPD used in Vietnam war.

Mobile Riverine Unit boats,  Mekong Delta, Vietnam.

WW2 PT Boats.

LA class SSN subs.

With classified equip removed, other for safety & made into Museumships.

We have NO Forrestal class CV Museumship anyplace.

USS Kitty Hawk & Connie can cover E & West coast for Museumships.

Love to see a Forrestal class CV moored to near USS Iowa, San Pedro CA.

& or  one near USS Missouri, Oahu HI?

Pls add more ship types,  names, to roster.

Petition time?? Our site & other Veteran sites?

Best Museumship model: USS Midway.

How about HMS Belfast in the Thames, London.

HMS Victory and HMS Warrior at Portsmouth, UK.

The wonderful Vasa museum in Stockholm. ??

These are,of course already "Museum Ships".

Another ship  about which ,periodically, discussion for preservation arises is HMVS Cerberus which presently does service as a breakwater in Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne, Australia.

HMS Ark Royal has sadly now been scrapped mate :(

I was lucky enough to go on her in the early 2000s as well as her sister-ship HMS Invincible.

HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and Mary Rose museum are an absolute must though if you visit England - they are as good as you will get for those eras. They are all about 30-45 minutes away from me.

I've been lucky enough to have been on USS Iowa, USS Missouri, USS Bowfin and right next to USS Midway.

Also on HMS Alliance and HMS Belfast too.

Love naval history!

Regarding the US PT Boats, there are two completely restored examples at Battleship Cove, in Fall River MA. If you cannot get there, there is a Squadron/ Signal book on these two examples, that have some of the best photos of them.

If you're ever in Charleston, South Carolina, you have 2 must-see sites: Patriot Point with USS Yorktown (aircraft carrier), USS Laffey (destroyer) and USS Clamagore (sub), in addition to Warren Lasch Conservation Center showcasing recovered civil-war-time sub H L Hunley.
